MPC’s 2010 Philanthropy Partners Conference, Changing Times/New Opportunities, brought together nearly 450 representatives from the philanthropic, nonprofit, and governmental sectors to hear from national thought leaders, take part in discussions with peers from around the state, and to consider ways that the field can work together differently and with greater efficiency.
The opening keynote was given by Diana Aviv, President of Independent Sector, and an afternoon plenary session featured former Maine governor, Angus King; Brad Smith, President of the Foundation Center; renowned economist Susan Raymond from Changing Our World; and moderator, Meredith Jones, president of the Maine Community Foundation.
More than 70 panelists took part in breakout sessions on a wide range of topics that included funding change through public policy, navigating the use of social media, collaborations from the ground up, engaging the next generation, developing community partners, keeping arts funding in the mix, and mission investing. Grantseekers also had a chance to hear directly from two panels of funders about their current priorities.
The day before the conference, grantmakers attended a funder-only day of programming that included a networking lunch, followed by an afternoon of dynamic presentations, and an informal evening culminating with a highly competitive bowling tournament.
“This was my first such conference and it was a great experience.”
“Fantastic day full of wonderful speakers and events.”
“One of the best MPC conferences.”
“Always look forward to this event - great to see old friends and make new ones.”
