Applying for Funding
The Lerner Foundation supports organizations and projects that seek to improve and strengthen civic life, with a particular focus on the State of Maine. The Lerner Foundation will make grants to organizations that promote civil discourse and civic responsibility through research, education, training and other programmatic means. The Foundation will also support efforts to improve communication and increase tolerance and understanding among people of different cultures and religions, as well as to maintain and improve the viability of the family unit through services for women and children. More about funding priorities.
The Lerner Foundation does not accept unsolicited proposals. However, it does welcome letters of inquiry from appropriate and qualified applicants. The Lerner Foundation has the following process for grant applications:
Please note that we accept LOI’s throughout the year and we strongly encourage applicants to send letters of inquiry well in advance of LOI deadlines. Otherwise, you may find you don’t have sufficient time to complete the full proposal.
* Grantees are eligible to reapply after submitting a completed evaluation.
Please note: The Lerner Foundation is currently transitioning from 4 grant cycles a year, to 2 grant cycles a year, starting in June 2013. If you are a current grantee and have questions about evaluation due dates, please contact email@example.com.
The Lerner Foundation primarily makes grants to charitable organizations that have been recognized by the IRS as being described in Section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code.
The Foundation has a geographic focus of Maine.
