This dynamic event brought together the largest gathering of funders, nonprofits, and thought leaders working in the philanthropic space in Maine. Nearly 400 attended the 2012 Philanthropy Partners Conference and were part of the conversation about how we collectively can begin to address our biggest challenges.
The ground beneath us has shifted, resulting in an environment where everyone must learn to do more with less and leaving no one with the capacity to go it alone - not government, the private sector, nonprofits or philanthropy. These circumstances present us with an uncommon opportunity for real change in Maine.
Since our first Philanthropy Partners Conference in 1995, the Maine Philanthropy Center has been committed to offering opportunities that invite different voices into the conversation around social change and to supporting efforts that build bridges within and across sectors. With less certainty than ever in government, greater expectations placed upon nonprofits, and the ability of philanthropy to take the long view, our charge for this year's gathering could not be more clear. Cultivating collective action around critical issues, within communities, and at a statewide level is no longer optional - it's the new reality. If we do not build alignment to challenge the barriers that stand in the way of a prosperous future for Maine, our hopes for successful and sustainable solutions may not be attainable.
Thanks to our sponsors for their support of the conference.
