Foundation requirements of the applicant:

The applicant must supply seven copies of the following: a completed fund application form, a brief proposal, and a copy of the
organization's most recent 501(c)(3) IRS ruling. This material must be postmarked no latter than February 15, for consideration in March; or August 15, for consideration in September.USE 1ST CLASS, PRIORITY OR EXPRESS MAIL - WILL NOT ACCEPT CERTIFIED MAIL (or any service requiring pickup or signature, it is a 20 mile roundtrip to the Post office). Time-sensitive emergency grants will be considered out of cycle.

APPLICATIONS WILL NOT BE ACCEPTED FOR THE MARCH 2010 CYCLE. NEXT CYCLE DEADLINE IS AUGUST 15, 2010

THE JOHN SAGE FOUNDATION IS ONLY FUNDING PROJECTS BASED IN THE STATE OF MAINE

Please be as succinct as possible.  We admire conservation over elegance.

Clearly define the project goals; state the methodology for attaining project goals. (e.g. 40 volunteer hours organized and supervised by ...)

Please give full financial disclosure: specify the total cost of the project, how the grant money will be used, and identify all other sources of funds.

Any funds given by JSF must be used in the manner outlined in the grant request. If changes in the original grant proposal become desirable amendments must be agreed upon by both JSF and the grantee and presented in writing.

If applying for conservation easement support include the terms of the easement and a single copy of the appraisals.

Please specify the name of a person who will be available, if needed, to answer questions before the board evaluates the request.

Complete an interim report - due at four months, and a final evaluation. Forms supplied by JSF.

Arrange for follow-up visits by a board member.

Some of the criteria by which the JSF board evaluates requests:

Does the grant request meet the mission of the JSF?

Will the project benefit the relationship between many people and the environment or reach a group which is under represented?

Will JSF's participation make a difference with to this project?
